What is a drift ice walk?

It's an outdoor activity that you can only experience in Shiretoko!
You put on a special dry suit, and walk on the surface of drift ice and hop between the ice floes while accompanied by experienced local fishers who will look out for your safety.

Time Morning 8:30-10:00
Afternoon 12:30-14:00
  • Please arrive before 10 minutes earlier.
  • Dedicated time slots (15:00–17:00) are available for travel agency group bookings. Reservations open in August of the previous year. Please feel free to contact us by email.

Requirements
  1. Height: 130-185 cm
  2. Weight: 100 kg or less
  3. Age: 70 or younger
  4. Participants must be in suitable physical condition for outdoor activities, have sufficient strength in all limbs, and be able to maintain balance and walk independently on uneven and floating ice without the use of walking aids such as canes.
  • You must meet all the requirements to take part in the tour.
